Bullhead City is located in Arizona's west-central Mohave County, on the east bank of the Colorado River near the juncture of Arizona, California and Nevada. It is the sister city to the popular gaming community of Laughlin, Nevada. Bullhead City is a rapidly growing community nestled along the beautiful blue waters of the Colorado River.
Bullhead was founded by William Harrison Hardy in the 1860s, when it was known as Hardyville. Hardy was a county supervisor, postmaster and a member of Territorial Legislature during his life. The name Bullhead City comes from "Bull’s Head Rock", a natural landmark used by paddleboat captains in the 1800s.
As the waters rose behind Davis Dam, creating Lake Mohave, Bull's Head Rock was gradually covered, with only a small, undistinguishable part of it remaining uncovered.
More than 5 million people travel through Bullhead City annually. The year-round sunshine makes it perfect for families, retirees and vacationers looking to escape the winter cold.
